Jeff Lindsay

Jeffrey D. Lindsay is Head of Intellectual Property at Asia Pulp and Paper in Shanghai, China, where he works with business units of APP to advance innovation and IP. Jeff is a former innovation and IP consultant, a former professor, and former Corporate Patent Strategist and Senior Research Fellow for Kimberly-Clark Corporation.

Jeff Lindsay, Cheryl Perkins and Mukund Karanjikar are authors of the book Conquering Innovation Fatigue (John Wiley & Sons, 2009) which includes some of Jeff’s contributions to innovation and IP strategy, including the use of aggressive but low-cost intellectual asset tools to better cope with the threats and opportunities from disruptive innovation. .

Jeff has a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Brigham Young University, where he was a National Science Foundation Graduate Fellow. Jeff then joined the faculty of the Institute of Paper Chemistry in Appleton, Wisconsin and continued with the Institute of Paper Science and Technology as they moved to Georgia Tech, where he became an Associate Professor at IPST. Jeff then joined the R&D community at Kimberly-Clark Corporation and became actively involved in patents and patent strategy. He became a registered US patent agent in 1997 and was named Corporate Patent Strategist in 2001. Jeff helped K-C build new patent estates in several new areas and also worked with management to create a community of practice in intellectual property that brings together Legal, management, and the technical community to strengthen best practices, increase skills, and network.

From 2007-2011, Jeff became Director of Solution Development at Innovationedge in Neenah, Wisconsin, a consulting firm that helps companies with technology scouting, new product development, and intellectual property strategy. During the same time, he also Jeff served as Chair of the Forest Bioproducts Division of AIChE, where he worked with industry and academia in advancing knowledge in the engineering issues around bioproducts, including paper technology, biorefineries, and biomass engineering. Jeff currently is as a member of AIChE’s Chemical Engineering Technology Operating Council (CTOC).

Jeff has over 100 granted US patents and is author of numerous publications. Jeff’s other interests include Mandarin and other languages, photography, amateur magic, and writing.
